connectXToday Mellanox announced availability of the ConnectX-4 Lx 10/25 Gigabit Ethernet adapters, delivering optimal cost-performance and scalable connectivity for Enterprise, Cloud, Telco, Web 2.0 and Storage applications. Solutions powered by Mellanox, data center architects can now upgrade server communication from 10 to 25 Gb/s within the rack and leverage 100 Gb/s connections between switches to deliver application acceleration at a lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

The performance expectations placed on data centers today are unprecedented and require organizations to make infrastructure decisions that meet today’s demands while anticipating future growth needs,” said Kevin Deierling, vice president of marketing at Mellanox Technologies. “Mellanox’s 25GbE adapters are designed to serve as direct replacement for commonly deployed 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapters. For example, just one port of 25GbE delivers 2.5 times more bandwidth per link, consumes less power, requires half the cabling, and half the switch ports versus multiple 10GbE ports, and thus enables application acceleration at a lower cost.”

Next-generation cloud data centers demand network infrastructure solutions that offer the agility and scalability to handle dramatically increasing data sets, while remaining cost-effective from both an operational and capital expense perspective. ConnectX®-4 Lx 10/25 Gb/s Ethernet adapters allow businesses to migrate to higher-performance and higher density networking as their data analytics requirements increase, without demanding a forklift upgrade or incurring additional operating expenses.
Mellanox’s ConnectX®-4 Lx adapters deliver unique and advanced data center virtualization capabilities including overlay network acceleration (VXLAN, NVGRE, Geneve), embedded virtual switch, and RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCE); enabling application acceleration and network virtualization at full wire speed. These features allow both public and private cloud providers to deliver the benefits of server and network virtualization while maintaining bare metal performance and maximizing CPU, I/O, and application efficiency.

For Communication service providers, the HPE adapter, powered by Mellanox ConnectX®-4 Lx with DPDK Poll Mode Driver (PMD) and Accelerated Switch and Packet Processing, (ASAP^2), delivers record setting packet processing performance of 33 million packets per second, with zero packet loss, which enables highly efficient network function virtualization (NFV) deployments.
The HPE ConnectX-4 Lx adapters also accelerate storage and hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI), enabling up to 2 times higher throughout and up to 85 percent more IOPS than 10GbE for software defined storage solutions such as Ceph, Nexenta Edge, VMware VSAN, and Windows Storage Spaces Direct. Leveraging RDMA offload the adapters provide lower latency which supports the new generation of flash storage enabling the most efficient storage protocols such as SMB Direct, iSCSI Extensions for RDMA (iSER), and NVMe Over Fabrics, all using fewer ports, cables, and switch ports than 10GbE.

Businesses today are faced with increasingly higher data center traffic, so they require IT infrastructure that delivers more bandwidth, high reliability, and a clear ROI,” said Tom Lattin, vice president and general manager, Hewlett Packard Enterprise. “HPE is now delivering new 25Gb Ethernet server networking offerings that provide up to 56 percent more bandwidth at a 27 percent TCO savings compared to 10Gb Ethernet technology, offering exceptional performance and lower overall TCO.”

The HPE 10/25 GbE 640SFP28 adapters are offered in both PCIe stand up, (817753-B21) and Flexible LOM form factors, (817749-B21), fitting the HPE ProLiant and Apollo series of servers. These adapters are orderable immediately for HPE channel partners and customers.
