Call for Proposals: Fortissimo Project

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

fortissimoThe European Fortissimo Project has issued its Second Call for Proposals. Fortissimo is a collaborative project that enables European SMEs to be more competitive globally through the use of simulation services running on High Performance Computing Cloud infrastructure.

This call for proposals targets the augmentation of the application experiments currently being carried out within Fortissimo and Fortissimo 2 focusing on modeling and simulation of coupled physical processes and high-performance data analytics (HPDA) and in all cases targeting benefits for engineering and manufacturing SMEs and Mid-caps. For the purpose of the Fortissimo 2 Call-2 a “Mid-cap” is defined as a company with a maximum of 2000 employees and an annual turnover below € 400 M. Details on coupled processes are given in the FAQ. Priority will be given to experiments driven by the requirements of first-time HPC users. Experiments should develop clear exploitation paths ensuring business impact and wider subsequent use of the services and technologies developed. They may also optionally investigate subsequent service deployment in the Fortissimo Marketplace.

Key Call Details

  • Submission Deadline: 7th December 2016, at 17:00 Brussels local time
  • Expected duration of participation: 1st May 2017 to 31st October 2018
  • Funding for Call-2: The indicative total funding budget is € 3 M of which the indicative funding budget for Third Parties is € 2.25 M.
  • Maximum funding request per proposal: € 175,000 (covering all participants, i.e. both Third Parties and existing Fortissimo 2 beneficiaries)

An outcome of the Fortissimo project is to establish a Fortissimo Marketplace, which will provide SMEs cost-effective access to advanced stimulation and modelling services operating on a Cloud infrastructure of HPC resources, software applications, expertise, and tools.  The Fortissimo Marketplace will offer a self-service of resources (software, hardware and support) to SMEs allowing them to benefit from advanced simulation and modelling service on an HPC Cloud, to improve company competitiveness through the use of the HPC to deliver new or improved products or services. A prototype of the Marketplace was released a few months ago and work has been continuing to validate the approach and add features. An updated version, intended to fully support the services being developed by the experiments, will be launched in the near future.

Submissions are due December 7, 2016.
