Intel Powers Fujitsu Supercomputer at Japan’s Meteorological Research Institute

Today Fujitsu announced the deployment of a new supercomputer system for the Meteorological Research Institute of the Japan Meteorological Agency. The new system consists of approximately 900 nodes including the latest x86 servers Fujitsu Server PRIMERGY CX2550 M5. With high-speed Intel Omni-Path interconnect, the system has a peak performance of 2.81 petaflops. “With the new supercomputer system, the Meteorological Research Institute plans to further advance research and development in areas such as the prediction and analysis of earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanoes.”

Fujitsu to Deploy Arm-based Supercomputer at Nagoya University

Today Fujitsu announced that it has received an order for an Arm-based supercomputer system from Nagoya University’s Information Technology Center. “For the first time in the world, this system will adopt 2,304 nodes of the Fujitsu Supercomputer PRIMEHPC FX1000, which utilizes the technology of the supercomputer Fugaku developed jointly with RIKEN. The sum of the theoretical computational performance of the entire system is 15.88 petaflops, making it one of the highest performing systems in Japan.”

Fujitsu Begins Shipping Fugaku Supercomputer

Today Fujitsu announced that the company has commenced shipping the supercomputer Fugaku. Jointly developed with RIKEN, Fugaku is slated to start general operation between 2021 and 2022. “Fugaku will be comprised of over 150,000 Arm-based Fujitsu A64FX CPUs with a proprietary “Tofu’ interconnect. The system was developed with the aim of achieving up to 100 times the application performance of the K computer with approximately three times the power consumption.”

Fujitsu to Deploy Gadi Supercomputer at NCI in Australia

Today Fujitsu announced a contract to upgrade the Australia’s fastest supercomputer at NCI. Called “Gadi,” the new supercomputer will replace the NCI’s current supercomputer, Raijin, which was also provided by Fujitsu back in 2012. “The upgrade of this critical infrastructure will see Australia continue to play a leading role in addressing some of our greatest global challenges. This new machine will keep Australian research and the 5,000 researchers who use it at the cutting-edge.”

Fujitsu will showcase their pending Fugaku Supercomputer and “the future of Artificial Intelligence” at ISC 2019 in Frankfurt next week. “Fugaku is the successor to the K supercomputer, jointly developed by RIKEN and Fujitsu. Named after Mount Fuji, Fugaku is designed to achieve top-level or peak application performance to solve a wide variety of social and scientific challenges.”

Fujitsu to Productize Post-K Supercomputer Technologies

Today Fujitsu announced that it has completed the design of Post-K supercomputer for deployment at RIKEN in Japan. While full-production of the full machine is not scheduled until 2021-2022, Fujitsu disclosed plans to productize the Post-K technologies and begin global sales in the second half of fiscal 2019. “Reaching the production milestone marks a significant achievement for Post-K and we are excited to see the potential for broader deployment of Arm-based Fujitsu technologies in support of HPC and AI applications.”
