Internet2 to Maximize Research Network Performance with CenturyLink’s Advanced Optical Fiber

Today the Internet2 advanced technology community announced it has selected CenturyLink’s new low-loss fiber network to transform its research and education network. The improved network performance that results will benefit researchers within the community as they strive to further our understanding of our world and the universe. “This acquisition will upgrade Internet2’s Network with new fiber optimized to support the demands of its new all-coherent open-line system. CenturyLink has also been selected to provide the professional services to migrate Internet2 to its new platform, which will be equipped with a flex-grid open-line system being provided by Ciena.”

Janet Network upgrades to 400Gbit/s for Global Research

JISC in the UK is upgrading its Janet Network to world-leading 400Gbit/s connectivity, making it one of the most digitally-advanced national research and education networks globally in terms of scale, automation and network intelligence. “Our vision is for the UK to be at the forefront of scientific research,” said Jeremy Sharp, network infrastructure director for Jisc. “To make that happen, we must have a highly robust network powered with industry-leading technology that can scale to support bandwidth-intensive applications like genome editing and the Square Kilometre Array.

KISTI Deploys 100G Transoceanic Research Network

In an effort to accelerate research with international partners, the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) is upgrading its 100G optical-transport network with bandwidth-on-demand solutions from Ciena. The network upgrade will provide critical support for KISTI users research and collaboration efforts against next-generation applications such as big data visualization, biocomputational analysis tools and information analysis models.
