Today UK-based Hammer PLC announced that it will be a distributer of Spectra Logic storage technology in Europe. “This is an excellent opportunity to increase our high-performance computing offering to our partners and customers,” said Jason Beeson, Hammer’s Commercial Director. “By adding Spectra Logic’s bespoke data workflow storage solutions we can reach a whole new genre of highly data-dependent users who are seeking a complete data workflow, from input and day-to-day use right through to deep storage and archiving.”
Private cloud storage enabled by BlackPearl provides the best option for balancing performance and cost; however, some customer workflows benefit greatly from incorporating a public cloud storage infrastructure,” said Matt Starr, Spectra Logic’s CTO. “Public cloud works best when a disaster recovery copy is needed; when wide data distribution is called for; to create geographic dispersion of data; and when other cloud-based features can be leveraged, such as automatic transcoding. The new Spectra hybrid storage ecosystem means that Spectra customers don’t have to choose between public and private cloud; BlackPearl brings them together seamlessly.”
Today Spectra Logic launched ArcticBlue, a new nearline disk storage system that delivers “Twice the Shelf Life of Competing Disk Platforms at Half the Cost.” ArcticBlue leverages the company’s BlackPearl hybrid storage architecture and Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR) disk media, creating an object storage based disk platform with maximum longevity, efficiency and cost effectiveness. Datacenter and private cloud managers can now affordably integrate a long-life nearline disk solution with online performance.
Today Spectra Logic announced Spectra Verde DPE, a new Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR)-based NAS disk platform designed to provide high-density bulk storage for reliable, high-capacity digital preservation, at costs as low as 9 cents per gigabyte raw.
Today Spectra Logic announced updates and enhancements to its BlackPearl Deep Storage Gateway that allow data to move seamlessly into deep tape storage in a new and more efficient way.
“Recently, we released our BlackPearl appliance, which is an S3 gateway to tape. It’s a really easy way to get data into a deep storage archive. Kind of interesting to take this cloud-based technology, put it into appliance and actually build a private cloud for HPC.”
Spectra Logic was named as the 2014 Storage Visions “Visionary Company in Media and Entertainment Storage” for its introduction of the Deep Simple Storage Service (DS3).
