Fugaku Supercomputer joins fight against COVID-19

Today RIKEN in Japan announced that the partially finished Fugaku supercomputer will be made available for research projects aimed to combat COVID-19. The installation of the new supercomputer began in December 2019, and it is scheduled to go into full-fledged open use in 2021. “To combat the global pandemic of the COVID-19 virus, we will rapidly provide access to the capabilities of Fugaku, leapfrogging its preparation, to accelerate the scientific process of diagnosis, treatment, as well as general prevention of infection spread, to contribute to the early termination of the pandemic.”

PolarisQB and Fujitsu Launch Drug Discovery Platform

Polarisqb has partnered with Fujitsu to create a ground-breaking drug discovery platform combining quantum-inspired technology, machine learning, hybrid quantum mechanics and molecular mechanics simulations (QM/MM). This new platform enables significantly faster, more cost-effective discovery of novel lead molecules to develop new drugs. Polarisqb and Fujitsu have begun a drug discovery project targeting Dengue Fever which has no approved treatments.

Intel Powers Fujitsu Supercomputer at Japan’s Meteorological Research Institute

Today Fujitsu announced the deployment of a new supercomputer system for the Meteorological Research Institute of the Japan Meteorological Agency. The new system consists of approximately 900 nodes including the latest x86 servers Fujitsu Server PRIMERGY CX2550 M5. With high-speed Intel Omni-Path interconnect, the system has a peak performance of 2.81 petaflops. “With the new supercomputer system, the Meteorological Research Institute plans to further advance research and development in areas such as the prediction and analysis of earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanoes.”

Bright Computing adds more than 100 new customers In 2019

Fujitsu to Deploy Arm-based Supercomputer at Nagoya University

Today Fujitsu announced that it has received an order for an Arm-based supercomputer system from Nagoya University’s Information Technology Center. “For the first time in the world, this system will adopt 2,304 nodes of the Fujitsu Supercomputer PRIMEHPC FX1000, which utilizes the technology of the supercomputer Fugaku developed jointly with RIKEN. The sum of the theoretical computational performance of the entire system is 15.88 petaflops, making it one of the highest performing systems in Japan.”
