[SPONSORED GUEST ARTICLE]   LUMI is a model for both world-class supercomputing and sustainability. It also embodies Europe’s rise on the global HPC scene in recent years. The AMD-powered, HPE-built system, ranked no. 3 on the new TOP500 list of the world’s most powerful supercomputers, also ranks no. 7 on the GREEN500 list of the most […]

Univ. of Cambridge Wilkes-3 Is No. 3 on Latest Green500 for Energy-efficient HPC

Twice a year, the TOP500 project releases a ranking of the most energy-efficient supercomputers in the world. This Green500 list parallels the better-known TOP500 list, which ranks and details the 500 fastest computer systems in the world. And now for the news of the day. In the most recent Green500 rankings, those for June 2021, […]

Supermicro Contributes to the MN-3 Supercomputer Earning #1 on Green500 List

Supermicro and Preferred Networks (PFN) collaborated to develop the most efficient supercomputer anywhere on earth, earning the #1 position on the Green500 list. This supercomputer, the MN-3, is comprised of Intel® Xeon® CPUs and MN-Core™ boards developed by Preferred Networks. In this white paper, read more about this collaboration and how a record-setting supercomputer was developed.

IBM Powers AiMos Supercomputer at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

The most powerful supercomputer to debut on the November 2019 Top500 ranking of supercomputers will be unveiled today at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Center for Computational Innovations (CCI). Part of a collaboration between IBM, Empire State Development (ESD), and NY CREATES, the eight petaflop IBM POWER9-equipped AI supercomputer is configured to help enable users to explore new AI applications and accelerate economic development from New York’s smallest startups to its largest enterprises.

Prototype of Fugaku Supercomputer reaches Number One on Green500

Today Fujitsu announced that a prototype of the Fugaku supercomputer being jointly developed by the two parties took No.1 in the Green500, a global ranking based on the energy efficiency of supercomputers. With Fugaku, we succeeded in developing a general-purpose Arm CPU with the world’s highest energy efficiency, far exceeding our targets through Co-design,” said Satoshi Matsuoka, Director, Riken-Center for Computational Science (R-CCS).

ServerCool CDUs are Cooling 10-Percent of Top100 Supercomputers

Today Nortek Air Solutions’ ServerCool division that its coolant distribution unit (CDU) technology is cooling dozens of the world’s most powerful and energy efficient supercomputers, according to the 2019 TOP500 and Green500 lists announced recently at the ISC 2019 in Frankfurt. “The TOP500 proves that hardware manufacturers are pushing their equipment’s performance envelope at the chip level, however ServerCool will keep pace with that growth by continuing to develop higher cooling and flow capacities with smaller footprints,” said Stuart Smith, global sales manager, ServerCool div. of Nortek Air Solutions.

NVIDIA Powers Top 13 Most Energy Efficient Supercomputers

Today Nvidia announced that the NVIDIA Tesla AI supercomputing platform powers the top 13 measured systems on the new Green500 list of the world’s most energy-efficient high performance computing systems. All 13 use NVIDIA Tesla P100 data center GPU accelerators, including four systems based on the NVIDIA DGX-1 AI supercomputer. “NVIDIA also released performance data illustrating that NVIDIA Tesla GPUs have improved performance for HPC applications by 3X over the Kepler architecture released two years ago. This significantly boosts performance beyond what would have been predicted by Moore’s Law, even before it began slowing in recent years.”

Asetek Enters Product Development Agreement with Major Datacenter Player

Today liquid-cooling technology provider Asetek announced that the company has signed a development agreement with a “major player” in the data center space. “This development agreement is the direct result of several years of collaboration and I am very pleased that we have come this far with our partner. I expect this is the major breakthrough we have been waiting for,” said André Sloth Eriksen, CEO and founder of Asetek.

Jülich Installs New QPACE3 Supercomputer for Quantum Chromodynamics

A new supercomputer has been deployed at the Jülich Supercomputing Center (JSC) in Germany. Called QPACE3, the new 447 Teraflop machine is named for “QCD Parallel Computing on the Cell. “QPACE3 is being used by the University of Regensburg for a joint research project with the University of Wuppertal and the Jülich Supercomputing Center for numerical simulations of quantum chromodynamics (QCD), which is one of the fundamental theories of elementary particle physics. Such simulations serve, among other things, to understand the state of the universe shortly after the Big Bang, for which a very high computing power is required.”

Asetek Lands Nine Installations on the Green500

“As seen at installations included on both the Green500 and Top500 lists, Asetek’s distributed liquid cooling architecture enables cluster energy efficiency in addition to sustained and un-throttled cluster performance,” said John Hamill, Vice President of WW Sales and Marketing. “Around the world, data centers are increasingly using Asetek technology for High Performance Computing while reducing energy costs.”
