The EMiT 2016 Emerging Technologies Conference has issued its Call for Papers. Hosted by the Mont-Blanc project and the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre, the event takes place June 2-3, 2016 in Barcelona.
Over at the ISC Blog, Luna Backes writes that her Mont-Blanc Climbers Team is looking forward to building the first ARM-based cluster ever at the upcoming ISC Student Cluster Competition.
“Early in February, Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) successfully deployed the Mont-Blanc prototype. After three years of intensive research effort, the team installed a two-rack prototype which is now available to the Mont-Blanc consortium partners. This has been a formidable challenge as this is the first time that a large HPC system based on mobile embedded technology has been deployed and made fully operational to a scientific community composed of scientists of six of the most important research centers in Europe.”
The European Commission has granted an additional €8 million Euros to extend the Mont-Blanc Project activities until September 2016. This funding comes on the heels of some significant milestones for the project, which endeavors to design a new type of energy-efficient computer architecture for Exascale systems.
