The Penguin's new computer

Penguin Computing today announced the Altus 600, a system which Penguin has positioned as a low cost, high performance compute node. From the release:

Equipped with up to two Next-Generation AMD Opteron® 2000-series processors and up to 64GB of memory Altus 600 eliminates features not typically needed by HPC customers, reducing the cost of clustering without sacrificing performance or efficiency.

The press release is pretty light on technical details of what they eliminated. I’m curious, so I’ll report back if I learn more about how they’ve tuned up the system specifically for our market.
