SoftLayer focusing on the green datacenter

The Forbes BusinessWire has a story covering SoftLayer Technology’s approach to getting at lower infrastructure requirements with more computing power. Their approach combines lower voltage offerings from Intel and AMD along with infrastructure-friendly components (like power supplies that are 85% efficient), custom software, and a keen eye for datacenter design.

“SoftLayer is focused on reducing all the wasted resources of a typical datacenter which includes space, power, and air,” said Lance Crosby, President and Chief Executive Officer of SoftLayer. “Our highly dense, small footprint datacenters are designed to maximize all facets of the datacenter environment.”

SoftLayer has tripled the server density while reducing the overall need for power and air by focusing on high efficient low power equipment.
