Cluster File Systems is moving to put Sun’s ZFS file system as the backend on all Linux implementations of their Lustre product. Their announcement is not entirely transparent on this point, but Sun’s Marc Hamilton, also quoted in the CFS announcement, makes a point of clarifying it on his blog entry
You can read the full press release from Cluster File Systems that talks about how they will be using the OpenSolaris ZFS file system for Lustre Object Storage Servers and Lustre Meta Data Servers. Please do read the fine print, Cluster File Systems will not just be using ZFS for their Solaris implementation, they will be using ZFS as the basis for all versions of Lustre.
Congratulations to Sun’s ZFS team. This is a big deal for them.
