From the “supercomputing in exotic locales” department, news this week from the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe (PRACE)
PRACE, the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe, decided to place its headquarters in Lisbon, Portugal, starting in 2010.
The selection of Lisbon as the seat of the PRACE headquarters is an important step towards the creation of a persistent pan-European High Performance Computing (HPC) Research Infrastructure. The PRACE Management Board unanimously selected Portugal as headquarters location for an initial period of 12 to 18 months. The final decision will be the mandate of the Council of the PRACE legal entity once it is established.
So if you find yourself in Lisbon with a couple hours to kill and a jones to see how a pan-European HPC program is run, stop by.
