Beowulf Bash 2009: Free Beer Included

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Did someone say free beer?  Yes I did!  For those attending this year’s Supercomputing show in Portland, Oregon, be sure and stop by the 2009 incarnation of the Beowulf Bash.  The Monday night event features the musical talents of Walt Ligon [of PVFS and LECCIBG fame], Norman Sylvester [The Original Northwest Boogie Cat] and FREE BEER.  The event sponsors have banded together and will provide free beer and wine as long as it lasts, or until 2:00AM when they shut us down.  There will also be free snacks and a cash bar for those who enjoy more sophisticated drinks.  First, the rules and regs:

The Got Beer License is a free, until-there-is-none-left beer license for attendees of SC09. The licenses for most parties and other practical social events are designed to take away your freedom to free beer. By contrast, the Got Beer License is intended to guarantee your freedom to have a good time without the need to buy beer.

The GBL was initially conceived in 1999 at the first Beowulf Bash. The authors decided that they wanted to enjoy themselves in a relaxed atmosphere where many of the HPC pioneers could get together without the need to buy beer. The freedom to buy beer was then transferred to the sponsors. In recent years the BeoBash has combined with the LECCIBG project to form a united common license.
