SGI launches new storage for enterprise, HPC

This week SGI launched a new storage product aimed at both the enterprise and HPC, the SGI InfiniteStorage Server 3500

SGI logoWith support for low latency protocols, including iSER for iSCSI over InfiniBand, ISS3500 is a perfect target for high performance computing (HPC) clusters such as SGI Altix ICE. Additionally, applications such as video surveillance, data warehousing and object storage for Lustre strongly benefit from the platform’s speed and density capabilities.

“With organizations looking for a fully integrated storage server solution, SGI InfiniteStorage Server 3500 offers customers a flexible yet powerful platform,” said Bill Mannel, vice president of product marketing at SGI. “This is a system that addresses high performance requirements, but at an aggressive price point.”

ISS3500 in a 4U chassis features 36 drive bays for 3.5″ SATA, SAS and SSD drives to pack up to 72TB into a single system at a price point of less than $0.90/GB. The ISS3500 also includes high-availability features as standard, including redundant power supplies and a redundant, hot-pluggable cooling system.
