Heard over the email transom yesterday about this workshop in Europe which, if I was the traveling type, I would definitely make time to attend.
IDC invites members of the European HPC community and other interested parties to a special workshop on IDC’s proposed supercomputing strategy for Europe through the year 2020. The workshop will take place on October 11, 2010 [corrected from October 7], from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, at the Dutch National Supercomputer Centre (SARA) in Amsterdam (sign-in and refreshments from 8:00 a.m.). IDC and European Commission officials will discuss the recommended strategy and invite questions. Under contract from the EC, IDC conducted extensive field research within the European HPC community for an Interim Report and then prepared a Final Report with the recommended strategy. Registration for the workshop is free of charge at www.hpcuserforum.com and the Interim Report is downloadable at www.hpcuserforum.com/EU. (The Final Report will soon be available at the same site.)
IDC also invites people to stay after the workshop for an HPC User Forum meeting in the same SARA location, starting at 12:00 noon on October 11 and ending midday on October 12 [corrected from Oct 7 and 8]. The HPC User Forum will feature European and U.S. HPC speakers from government, industry and academia. Featured topics include latest developments in cloud computing for HPC, partnerships with industry, and green IT, among others. Registration for the HPC User Forum is also free of charge at www.hpcuserforum.com. Contact hpc@idc.com with any questions.
I also recommend a read of at least the executive summary of the interim report…it’s quite interesting.
