In this podcast, I talk with the Oak Ridge team behind the SC10 Birds of a Feather session: Developing, Recruiting, and Retaining in Women in HPC. The idea for the session came from ORNL’s Rebecca Hartman-Baker, and she recruited Judy Hill and Hai-Ah Nam to help bring it all together. As part of the discussion, each team member explains how they got into HPC and the challenges they faced along the way.
I think this is going to be one session not to miss at SC10. Women are still very much a minority in the HPC community and I think this kind of program is important. Things may be starting to change though. Anne Baker at ORNL has started up a Facebook page for women in HPC and projects like DotDiva.org are in place for getting young girls interested in computing.
