John Gustafson

John Gustafson has joined Ceranovo as Chief Technology Officer. Most recently at AMD as Chief Product Architect, Gustafson is widely known for his paper, Reevaluating Amdahl’s Law, which later became referred to as “Gustafson’s Law.”

The products have nothing to do with superconductivity, but they are high-temperature (up to 300 degrees C). We have been shipping products with permittivities over 6000, which is a real game-changer in the passive components industry.

If anyone is wondering what this has to do with HPC, better capacitors help reduce power loss and decrease the size of computing equipment. Since the main way to get around speed-of-light limitations is to make computers smaller, without making them hotter, achieving almost an order of magnitude improvement in capacitor technology will be extremely helpful to the entire computer industry, not to mention applications in electric vehicles, solar panels, LED lighting, etc.

  1. A couple of corrections: The company name is Ceranovo, not CeraNova. And the products have nothing to do with superconductivity, but they are high-temperature (up to 300 degrees C). We have been shipping products with permittivities over 6000, which is a real game-changer in the passive components industry.
