imgresAltair, a provider of simulation technology and engineering services, has announced a number of developments with its software HyperWorks. Altair ProductDesign, has received a 2013 Boeing Performance Excellence Award. The company has also announced that the newest addition of HyperWorks has been given Intel cluster ready certification and that the software is being used by the aerospace industry to speed up the design of new aircraft.

The 2013 Boeing Performance Excellence Award is issued by The Boeing Company annually to recognize suppliers who have achieved superior performance. To qualify for the award, Altair maintained a Silver composite performance rating for each month of the 12-month performance period, from 1 October to 30 September.

Boeing deploys Altair’s HyperWorks simulation suite throughout its engineering teams and makes extensive use of Altair ProductDesign’s engineering experts who work onsite with Boeing’s engineering teams. The combined team’s work covers minimum-weight design, stress analysis, FE analysis, process automation and methods development for metallic and composite aircraft structures and tooling.

We have worked with Boeing since 2005 and are honored to receive this award in acknowledgement of our efforts over the last twelve months,” said Mak Gilbert, engineering manager at Altair ProductDesign. “Our specialist teams work alongside Boeing’s engineers to optimize the performance and minimize the weight of their aircraft on a daily basis. We are grateful to receive this award as a sign of the successful and close working relationship between our two companies.”

Altair is also highlighting how their HyperWorks software is being implemented by the industry to speed up the design of new aircraft.

Aircraft manufacturers are using the suite for weight reduction and design with composites; modern structural modelling and automated design processes; and stress, mechanism and vulnerability simulation.

For composites, HyperMesh saves significant time with its modelling process. Composites data may be read from the computer-aided design (CAD) model, with ply shapes and parameters comprehended and effortlessly mapped onto elements.

HyperView provides layer-based post-processing for composites, yielding results for both individual layers and the aggregation of layers and identifying the maximum contributing layer. The module also includes predefined criteria, including well-known industry standard composite failure theories, and allows for invoking in-house codes for further manipulation of these results.

OptiStruct is a state-of-the-art solver with non-linear capabilities for ply-based modeling. It offers size optimization for dimensioning of structural components, as well as topology optimization to substantially reduce weight by determining the ideal material distribution

Many additional tools of exceptional importance to the aerospace industry can be accessed through the Altair Partner Alliance (APA), which enables HyperWorks users to call on third-party software as needed at no additional cost.

Altair has also announced that its HyperWorks Unlimited appliance for computer-aided engineering (CAE) has been certified as Intel Cluster Ready, verifying the product’s status as a plug-and-play solution for high-performance computing (HPC).

HyperWorks Unlimited is a fully managed appliance designed to reduce the time and cost associated with enabling HPC for high-end engineering. The product includes pre-configured HPC hardware and software, with unlimited use of all Altair HyperWorks CAE applications as well as PBS Works HPC workload management software.

Achieving Intel Cluster Ready status is another proof point verifying how elegantly HyperWorks Unlimited is architected for installation and usage,” said Ravi Kunju, vice president of strategy and business development at Altair. “With Intel Cluster Ready certification, users can be certain the solution is ready to perform. Customers simply wheel in the appliance and turn it on – all our HyperWorks design software is immediately at their fingertips for unlimited virtual exploration, with the solid platform of PBS Works to manage workloads and interact with resources. By its design, business model, and support structure, HyperWorks Unlimited eliminates the complexity of HPC adoption for computationally intensive engineering, regardless of the size of the company, increasing the flexibility and scalability of information technology investment.”
