Bright Computing Integrates Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre

bright-cluster-manager-standardToday Bright Computing announced that the latest version of its Bright Cluster Manager software is now integrated with the Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre software. Systems administrators can easily deploy, use and maintain Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre using Bright. Because Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre metrics and diagnostics are included, admins have access to a comprehensive view of Lustre file systems, servers, and clients as managed resources through Bright’s GUI.

What’s especially exciting about this enhancement is that now storage management is integrated with cluster management,” said Bright CTO, Martijn de Vries. “The new integration is of terrific value for the deployment, use and maintenance of Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre together with workload management, and other capabilities, collectively managed by Bright Cluster Manager from a familiar management interface.”

The enhancements offer significant value by making Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre configuration and setup easy, while also reducing the ongoing administrative burden through proactive diagnostics based on Lustre-specific metrics and tests, for example.

Designed to enable fully parallel I/O throughput across thousands of clients, servers, and storage devices, the Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre software enhances the performance and scalability of the Lustre parallel file system for HPC workloads. End users who need the benefits of large-scale, high-bandwidth storage can easily access all of Lustre’s capabilities through the integrated combination of IEEL and Bright Cluster Manager. The Bright – Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre integration will enable customers to automate the installation of Intel® Enterprise Edition for Lustre, while providing access to Bright-managed technologies from a central point of control.

Bright Computing is well-known for their cluster management capabilities,” said Brent Gorda from Intel. “Adding the leading storage solution furthers our shared goal of simplifying complex technologies to enable broader access.”

The integration is particularly compelling in establishing a unique solution that works for HPC, Big Data Analytics, or a hybrid environment. By replacing HDFS with Intel® Enterprise Edition for Lustre, as the native file system for both HPC and Big Data Analytics, the extremely appealing result is a single file system for HPC, Hadoop and Spark clusters.

Bright Computing, already Intel Cluster Ready compliant, has won a number of Intel Cluster Ready awards over the years. Bright Computing also provides support for Intel Xeon Phi, including native and offload modes, is part of Intel’s Fabric Builders for Omnipath, and offers a comprehensive suite of software packages for developers, including Intel Compilers, Intel MKL and Intel MPI.
