In this video, Ken Claffey from Seagate and Bill Mannel from HP discuss a new high performance storage alliance between the two companies.

At ISC 2015, Seagate announced that the company has extended its alliance agreement with computing leader HP to equip its high performance computing solutions with ClusterStor scale-out storage capabilities. Building on a proven partnership, HP will resell Seagate’s ClusterStor 1500 and 9000 appliances along with its HPC solutions. This partnership will support HP’s Apollo portfolio of products and services, which manage HPC workloads in complex computing environments.

At HP we’re committed to providing flexibility to meet all HPC needs,” said Bill Mannel, vice president and general manager, HP. “We’re confident that Seagate’s award-winning ClusterStor – which HP has successfully utilized within oil and gas verticals – can now help us achieve a high-level of performance for additional HPC workloads in other vertical industries. Often these solutions must provide scalability for growth while being easy to use in terms of efficiently managing and deriving value from hyperscale and high performance computing. Seagate ClusterStor is targeted to address these types of requirements.”

Seagate’s ClusterStor combines a unique scale out storage architecture with the Lustre parallel file system together with optimized Seagate storage media to deliver the most scalable and highest performance storage solution for the HPC market. By removing complexities associated with deploying and maintaining traditional high performance storage systems, ClusterStor significantly reduces the time and operational costs required to meet mission-critical needs. In addition to MIT, the enhanced HP HPC solutions will benefit a wide range of users in fields such as bio informatics, pharmaceutical discovery, upstream oil and gas modeling, weather simulation, academic and government research.

As a result of this partnership, customers can now purchase a complete end-to-end HPC storage solution born from two of the most trusted technology companies in the business,” said Ken Claffey, vice president and general manager, Seagate HPC systems business. “Aligning our expertise is more valuable than ever before as HPC moves into a new era of data-centric computing, which is increasing the need for high performance, scalable storage systems.”
