Horst Simon to be Program Chair for ISC 2018

Horst Simon from LBNL will be the Program Chair at ISC 2018

ISC 2017 may be just around the corner, but the conference team is already busy planning the show for next year. Today they announced that Prof Horst Simon from LBNL will be the ISC 2018 program chair.

ISC 2018 topics will embrace a range of subject matter critical to the development of the high performance computing field, which, in return, impacts the quality of human life.”

Here is the list of the topics that will be addressed by over 100 invited speakers:

  • Beyond Moore’s Law
  • Exascale Systems
  • Climate Change
  • HPC and Electric Power Grid Control
  • Big Data Analytics
  • Cosmology and HPC
  • Human Brain Modeling and Related Big Data Challenges
  • Future Applications for Quantum Computers
  • Robotics
  • What’s New with Cloud Computing for HPC?
  • Future Challenges for Programming Models and Languages
  • The Rise of Containerized HPC
  • Artificial Intelligence on HPC Platforms

ISC also announced that nine individuals who have served as deputy chairs in the 2017 conference have been promoted to chair positions for next year’s event:

  • Prof. David Keyes of KAUST will serve as the Research Paper chair
  • Dr. Matthias S. Müller of RTWH Aachen will head the Research Poster committee
  • Prof. Gerhard Wellein of the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen in Nuremberg will chair the PhD Forum chair
  • Prof. Georg Hager, also of the Erlangen Regional Computing Center, will chair the Birds-of Feather sessionsh
  • John Shalf of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory will head the Workshops committee
  • Dr. Rosa M. Badia of Barcelona Supercomputing Center will lead the Tutorials committee

Kim McMahon

New next year, Kim McMahon of McMahon Consulting has been appointed as the ISC Diversity Chair. She possesses over 18 years of industry experience and is an active member of the Women in HPC organization.

The organizers are confident that the 2018 conference will offer talks that encompass an array of unique topics and speakers. The full program details will be available when registration opens in March 2018.

The ISC 2018 conference will once again be held in Frankfurt from June 24-28, 2018.
