Seagate Self-Encrypting Drives now available through Carahsoft

Today Seagate Government Solutions announced that Carahsoft has become an approved distributer of the company’s Secure Self-Encrypting Drives (SEDs). Designed to help Protect Data At Rest (DAR), Seagate SEDs are used to mitigate security risks associated with today’s mobile workforce.

Seagate SEDs are used to protect Data at Rest and reduce IT drive retirement costs—two key goals of every government agency,” said Craig P. Abod, Carahsoft president. “With Seagate in our portfolio, we are now able to offer our government customers and reseller partners the widest selection of FIPS 140-2 certified SEDs to prevent the loss and theft of sensitive data and achieve regulatory compliance.”

Seagate was the first company to offer disk drives that achieve the rigorous FIPS 140-2 Level 2 certification. FIPS 140-2 Level 2 is the worldwide standard for cryptographic modules certification from the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Canadian Communications Security Establishment Certification (CSEC).

In addition, Seagate is also the only hard disk drive manufacturer with products to qualify as “Designed in the U.S.A.” via U.S. Customs and Border Protection and to meet the TAA requirements for the GSA Schedule and other U.S. Government contracts.

Seagate is the pioneer and leader in Data at Rest (DAR) protection and strong media disposal with SEDs. Secure and compliant SEDs offer significant performance and TCO advantages over CPU and full disk encryption methods while being streamlined enough for a one-person IT department to manage and maintain.

We are excited to work with Carahsoft to bring these new, certified drives to the government market, as we know they can solve the critical challenges around data security that concern IT teams and government employees alike,” said Deb Oliver, president, Seagate Government Solutions.

Seagate’s line of TAA compliant enterprise and laptop self-encrypting drives are available now through Carahsoft.
