In this video from the Heroes of Deep Learning series, Andrew Ng interviews Head of Baidu Research, Yuanqing Lin.
“Baidu Research brings together global research talent to work on AI technologies in areas such as image recognition, speech recognition, high performance computing, natural language processing and deep learning. Baidu Research comprises four labs: the Silicon Valley AI Lab, the Institute of Deep Learning, the Big Data Lab and the Augmented Reality Lab.”
Yuanqing Lin most recently served as head of the Media Analytics Department at NEC Labs America, where he led teams focused on computer vision research related to mobile search and self-driving cars. “We are thrilled to have Yuanqing join us,” said Ng. “He brings deep technology expertise to our IDL team in Beijing and Silicon Valley.” Lin is an active member of the computer vision and machine learning communities. He holds an M.S. degree in Optical Engineering from Tsinghua University and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. IDL is one of three research labs under the umbrella of Baidu Research. The others are the Silicon Valley AI Lab, directed by Adam Coates, and the Big Data Lab, directed by Tong Zhang.
Andrew Ng is the founder of DeepLearning.AI. As the founding lead of the Google Brain project, and more recently through his role at Baidu, he has played a role in the transformation of two leading technology companies into “AI companies.” His Machine Learning MOOC on Coursera helped many people enter AI.
