Dell EMC Powers High Performance Computing at HPC Wales

In this video from ISC 2018, Biagio Lucini from Swansea University describes how Dell EMC is working with Supercomputing Wales on advanced computing projects including the Bloodhound Supersonic car.

Supercomputing Wales is a new £15m program of investment to provide university research teams access to powerful computing facilities to undertake high-profile science and innovation projects within the consortium universities – Cardiff University, Swansea University, Bangor University and Aberystwyth University. The program includes investment in two upgraded supercomputer hubs and a new group of Research Software Engineers across Wales to develop algorithms and customised software that harnesses the power of the facilities. The facilities are supported by an experienced and specialised technical support team providing wrap-around services. The aim of the investment is to capture more external research funding, increase scientific partnerships, create highly-skilled research jobs and support collaborations with industrial and other partners. This will provide a step change in supercomputing-enabled scientific research in Wales.

As described in the video, the BLOODHOUND Project is a global Engineering Adventure, using a 1,000mph World Land Speed Record attempt to inspire the next generation to enjoy, explore and get involved in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Project objectives:

  • Inspire the next generation about science, technology, engineering and mathematics
  • Share an iconic research and development programme with a global audience
  • Set a new World Land Speed Record of 1,000mph

The Dell EMC HPC Community is a worldwide technical forum that fosters the exchange of ideas among researchers, computer scientists, technologists, and engineers and promotes the advancement of innovative, powerful HPC solutions. The next Dell HPC Community Meeting takes place at SC18 in Dallas.
