Job of the Week: HPC System Administrator at AUS

The American University of Sharjah (AUS) is seeking an HPC System Administrator in our Job of the Week.

American University of Sharjah (AUS) invites applications for an HPC System Administrator position commencing in the Spring 2019 semester at the latest. AUS is seeking a highly motivated individual with proven experience in managing software and hardware HPC installations for research applications, with emphasis on utilizing open source tools and platform. The qualified candidate is expected to coordinate with AUS IT for integrating the newly acquired HPC cluster with the existing infrastructure. They should ensure HPC environment stability and manage and support new technology at both hardware and software level.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage HPC cluster with CPU and GPU nodes.
  • Automate and perform workload management, system backup and update.
  • Monitor key system parameters and logs.
  • Create and update documentation detailing system operations for end-users.
  • Coordinate with AUS IT and OEM system vendors in identifying potential problems in the HPC cluster and propose solutions.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • More than five years’ experience in daily management and oversight of medium to large HPC systems.
  • Extensive experience with Linux platforms, preferably Redhat.
  • Expertise in computer hardware, compute accelerator architectures and high-speed interconnects such as Infiniband and/or Omnipath.
  • Hands-on experience with Lustre, NFS and other parallel file systems.
  • Demonstrated ability in developing BASH, Python and/or Perl scripts.
  • Demonstrated ability to install open software packages, beyond the use of package managers i.e. installing from source code.
  • Experienced with the installation of commercial software and their associated license managers.
  • Experience with workload/resource managers such as SLURM, xCAT and TORQUE.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • BSc in computer science/computer engineering or closely related engineering field. An MSc or higher degree is desirable
