Job of the Week: Research Computing Administrator at University of Oxford

The University of Oxford is seeking a Research Computing Administrator in our Job of the Week.

Would you like to manage and develop a state-of-the-art High-Performance Compute (HPC) facility to help enable cutting-edge biomedical research? We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Computing Administrator to join us at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology (KIR). The KIR is a world-class research centre that is situated between the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics and the Big Data Institute at the University of Oxford.

The KIR’s advanced HPC facility is essential for its growing big-data research activities in the areas of single-cell genomics, microbiome analysis and clinical informatics. In this role you will take responsibility for maintaining and developing the facility and for supporting the students and post-doctoral scientists who use it every day. You will take a leading role in the design, deployment and adoption of new hardware and software for machine learning, virtualization and data sharing. You will be an Associate of the University’s Advanced Research Computing team and will represent the Institute at meetings and conferences.

You will have a Bachelor’s degree in a subject such as computer science, or equivalent experience. Extensive experience of managing Linux-based scientific research computing infrastructure is essential along with a record of supporting users’ needs by, for instance, running training courses. An enthusiastic team player with excellent interpersonal skills, you should value quality of service and respond positively to new challenges.
