Job of the Week: HPC Programmer at Global Science & Technology

Global Science & Technology is seeking an experienced HPC Science Programmer in our Job of the Week.

In this role, you will support a major NOAA contract located in College Park, MD. The successful candidate will work with a group of scientists and software developers at the Satellite Oceanography and Climatology Division (SOCD) under the NOAA Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR). The position is long term, contingent upon performance.

Required Education/Skills/Experience:

  • Solid quantitative background, with a M.S. degree (Ph.D. degree preferred) in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Atmospheric/Oceanic Sciences
  • 8-10 years of experience with scientific/technical programming
  • Proficiency with Linux/Unix OS; Excellent programming skills in Fortran 2003/2008, C/C++, IDL, Perl/Python, and shell scripting
  • Ability to develop efficient (memory usage and speed) code, taking advantage of the latest hardware (e.g., GPU, parallel file systems).
  • An ability to work with scientists and software developers to implement code in a high performance computing /cluster environment
  • Capture and document requirements and code developed from the requirements
  • Contribute to the scientific data analyses in the group
  • Ability to easily read, modify and enhance the existing legacy code
  • Programming knowledge of MPI, Open MP, OpenACC
  • Experience with batch jobs (crontabs, scripts) and version control software (e.g., CVS, GIT)
  • Excellent teamwork, strong inter-personal, communication, and analytical skills
