This talk will discuss how advances in instrumentation have caused many new areas to embrace HPC and AI in order to successfully conduct and understand their experiments.

Alan Real is Director of Advanced Research Computing at Durham University. Following a PhD in bimolecular simulation, Alan has established a song track record in the provision of HPC facilities for Universities, Regional and National consortia across several research domains. He is the current Chair of the oversight group for the DiRAC facility that supports the particle physics and Astronomy theory community and recently co-authored a position paper on securing the future of research computing in the biosciences.
