In this video from SC19, Erich Strohmeier from LBNL leads a BoF session on TOP500 supercomputers.
Now in its 26th year, the TOP500 list of supercomputers serves as a “Who’s Who” in the field of High Performance Computing (HPC). The TOP500 list was started in 1993 as a project to compile a list of the most powerful supercomputers in the world. It has evolved from a simple ranking system to a major source of information to analyze trends in HPC. As such it is widely used and cited by numerous speakers and media whenever references to the development of supercomputing abilities are needed. The TOP500 has traditionally been published at the SC in November and at the ISC in June of each year since 1993. The 54th TOP500 list will be published in November 2019 just in time for SC19.
This years BoF will follow this traditional format and present detailed analyses of the TOP500 and discuss the changes in the HPC marketplace during the past years. Results from the Green500 and the HPCG benchmark will also be discussed. The BoF is meant as an open forum for discussion and feedback between the TOP500 authors and the user community.
Additional Sessions Leaders:
- Jack Dongarra, University of Tennessee
- Horst Simon, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
- Martin Meuer, ISC Group
Birds of a Feather (BoF) sessions provide a dynamic, noncommercial venue for conference attendees to openly discuss current topics of interest to our HPC community – from programming models to big data to accelerators to education. BoF sessions connect you with other attendees with similar interests.
