South Dakota State University is seeking a High Performance Computer Specialist in our Job of the Week.

South Dakota State University Division of Technology and Security is offering an exciting career opportunity as a Research High Performance Computer Specialist. We are looking for a creative and innovative professional to join us in the engagement of university research faculty and their collaborators, graduate research assistants, and laboratory personnel to identify, develop and implement appropriate high-performance computing solutions (application/parallel computing/programming) to problems impeding their research/diagnostic work. This is a 12 month, full-time, benefit-eligible position. This position is supervised by the Director of Research Computing.

Responsibilities:

  • Research and pilot new and emerging High-Performance Computing (HPC) technologies such as Big Data – Artificial Intelligence applications
  • Advise and partner with faculty researchers as necessary to design solutions to address their current and potential future needs using current and emerging research computing technologies
  • Ability to apply a mastery and broad understanding of theory and principles in various scientific fields (i.e., Computer Science, Data Science, Bioinformatics, Genomics, etc.) to address computational problems associated with scientific research projects
  • Defining elements within the research pipeline. Develop research-computing application program algorithm solutions that address High-Performance Computational needs within the institution. Involvement in scientific application program coding activities
  • Conduct training workshops to share knowledge of the use of research computing systems, applications, and programs
  • Enhance outreach by assisting research faculty and central IT with the computational aspects of research grant proposals
