Women in HPC and Alces Flight Announce Move the Needle Project Results

Feb. 3, 2025 — The team at Alces Flight, a UK-based company specializing in high performance computing and volunteers from Women in HPC announced the final report and facilitation guide from the Move the Needle Project, which ran throughout 2024 and examined practical approaches to goal-setting, accountability, and continuous improvement focused on the people side of supercomputing.

Now available as free resources, these materials cover structured goal-setting, investment, and actionable insights.

Key resources include:

Facilitation Guide: A two-part guide covering goal-setting strategies and methods for building accountability and investment.

Final Report: A comprehensive summary of lessons learned, best practices, and an overview of the resources developed throughout the project.

Additional materials have been consolidated into a Knowledge Portal, featuring interviews, blog posts, and a mid-project progress report, offering further insights and reflections from the community.

The project team extends its gratitude to over 30 individuals who contributed directly and indirectly to Move the Needle. We hope these resources will support others in their efforts to drive meaningful and sustainable improvements to the people who work and study within the field of supercomputing.
