Scandiano, September 3, 2025 – E4 Computer Engineering, an Italian company in the field of high-tech hardware and software solutions for high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing (QC), is currently among the protagonists of the IEEE International Conference on Quantum Computing and Engineering (QCE), a major event bringing together the international quantum community in Albuquerque, New Mexico (USA).
As part of the initiative, which offers a multidisciplinary approach and a unique opportunity to discuss challenges and opportunities with quantum researchers, scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, developers, and programmers, E4 presented the paper “Dynamic Solutions for Hybrid Quantum-HPC Resource Allocation,” a new malleability-based approach—i.e., based on the dynamic allocation of computational resources—to the integration of quantum computers and “classical” high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructures.
“The integration of quantum computers into high-performance computing infrastructures is receiving increasing attention, with the former intended to serve as accelerators for specific computational tasks. However, combining HPC and quantum computers presents significant technical challenges, including resource allocation,” noted Daniele Gregori, Chief Scientific Officer at E4 Computer Engineering.
“Thanks to our new approach, we can release classic resources during quantum processing and reallocate them once quantum processing is complete. Our tests with a hybrid HPC-quantum use case have demonstrated the advantages of this type of dynamic allocation, and we are proud of the interest our proposal has generated among such a prestigious and qualified audience” reports Gabriella Bettonte, E4 researcher in the field of quantum computing, who will present the results obtained.
E4 Computer Engineering presented its innovative approach at the International Workshop on Integrating High-Performance and Quantum Computing, a regular event during IEEE Quantum Week that brings together professionals, theorists, and users of HPC, quantum computing, and applied disciplines to build a long-term interdisciplinary bridge and create an integrated HPC-QC approach capable of bringing combined computational capabilities to a broad user base.
E4 Computer Engineering is one of the founding members of the Quantum Excellence Center for Quantum-Enhanced Applications (QEC4QEA) consortium, a leading European initiative for the creation of a unified platform for the development and integration of quantum applications in various scientific and industrial fields.
Now recognized as a leading player in sectors such as HPC and AI, E4 is among the pioneers in quantum computing and already boasts several projects in Italy and Europe in fields ranging from pharmaceuticals to the development of quantum algorithms for data encryption in the telecommunications and defense sectors.
