NYU Unveils ‘Torch’ NVIDIA Supercomputer

Oct. 8, 2025 — New York University has unveiled the “Torch” supercomputer, which the university said is the most powerful HPC system in the state of New York.

Torch, equipped with more than 500 NVIDIA H200 GPUs and named for the university’s logo, is five times more powerful than NYU’s previous supercomputer, Greene, as well as more sustainable: Torch was recently ranked No. 40 on the Green500 list of the most sustainable supercomputers in the world. Greene, which came online in 2020, was ranked No. 50 on the same list.

“Torch will empower NYU’s research community to achieve new heights of scientific exploration in the fields of AI, climate modeling and Alzheimer’s research, to name just a few, as they push the boundaries of innovation even further,” says Stacie Bloom, NYU’s Chief Research Officer & Vice Provost for Research.
