Intel Optane Persistent Memory Tops IO500 List

Intel announced today that its Optane persistent memory (PMem), in combination with Intel’s open-source distributed asynchronous object storage (DAOS) solution, has taken the no. 1 position on the Virtual Institute for I/O IO500 list for file system performance. Intel said DAOS, with 30 servers of Intel Optane PMem, came in ahead of systems on the […]

Video: New Dell EMC PowerStore platform is performance-optimized with Intel Optane SSDs

Today Dell Technologies launched Dell EMC PowerStore, a modern infrastructure platform built from the ground up with superior technology and expertise to address the challenges of the data era. “PowerStore is seven times faster and three times more responsive than previous Dell EMC midrange storage arrays, because of its end-to-end NVMe design and support for Storage Class Memory as persistent storage powered by dual port Intel Optane SSDs.”

Reimagining HPC Compute and Storage Architecture with Intel Optane Technology

Andrey Kudryavtsev from Intel gave this talk at the DDN User Group in Denver. “Intel Optane DC SSDs are proven technologies that have helped data centers remove storage bottlenecks and accelerate application performance for the past two years. Now, the launch of Intel Optane persistent memory and the integrated support of 2nd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors is further shrinking the gap between storage and DRAM. Together, Intel Optane DC persistent memory and Intel Optane SSDs deliver value across four crucial vectors.”

Intel Optane comes to new Inspur Storage Products

Inspur recently launched all-flash storage systems with dual-port Intel Optane SSDs. “With the Optane SSD as the high-speed cache layer, AS5000G5-F combines innovative technologies such as intelligent data layering, on-board hardware acceleration and online compression/deduplication, which achieves up to 8 million IOPS and a latency of 0.1ms, representing one of the highest performing mid-range storage systems available in the industry.”

Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory comes to Oracle Exadata X8M

Today Oracle announced that it is incorporating the high performance capabilities of Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory into its next-generation Oracle Exadata X8M. “Oracle and Intel have integrated cutting-edge persistent memory technologies into the leading enterprise database machine to deliver real-time access to the most mission-critical data. This transcends the boundaries of conventional shared storage systems and servers that simply cannot keep pace with this level of innovation.”

Baidu to Speed Services with Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory

Today Intel announced Baidu is architecting the in-memory database of its Feed Stream services to harness the high-capacity and high-performance capabilities of Intel Optane DC persistent memory. Paired with 2nd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors, building a new memory platform based on Intel Optane DC persistent memory allows Baidu to lower its total cost of ownership (TCO) while delivering more personalized search results to users. Intel and Baidu disclosed details of this deployment and other joint collaborations on Thursday at the 2019 Baidu ABC Summit in Beijing.

Accelerate Your Apache Spark with Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory

Piotr Balcer and Cheng Xu from Intel gave this talk at the 2019 Spark+AI Summit. “Intel Optane DC persistent memory breaks the traditional memory/storage hierarchy and scales up the computing server with higher capacity persistent memory. Also it brings higher bandwidth & lower latency than storage like SSD or HDD. And Apache Spark is widely used in the analytics like SQL and Machine Learning on the cloud environment.”

Configuring Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory for Best Performance

In this video, Dave Larsen describes how to configure Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory for best performance. “Intel Optane DC persistent memory is a revolutionary technology that combines memory-like performance with the capacity and data persistence of storage. It enables new possibilities for in-memory analytics, databases, HPC, high-density virtualization, AI and more.”

Unleashing the Next Wave of HPC Breakthroughs with Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory and Intel Optane DC Solid State Drives

In the face of unrelenting data growth, rising numbers of high-performance computing (HPC) workloads are memory bound. Caught between the high cost and limited capacity of DRAM and the lower performance of 3D NAND SSDs, HPC users increasingly find that despite workarounds, they’re unable to keep pace with skyrocketing data volumes and increasingly complex challenges. Intel Optane technology is designed to address these challenges.

Video: Introduction to Intel Optane Data Center Persistent Memory

In this video from the 2019 Stanford HPC Conference, Usha Upadhyayula & Tom Krueger from Intel present: Introduction to Intel Optane Data Center Persistent Memory. For decades, developers had to balance data in memory for performance with data in storage for persistence. The emergence of data-intensive applications in various market segments is stretching the existing […]
