Composable Supercomputing Optimizes Hardware for AI-driven Data Calculation

In this sponsored post, our friend John Spiers, Chief Strategy Officer at Liqid, discusses how composable disaggregated infrastructure (CDI) solutions are emerging as a solution to roadblocks to advancing the mission of high-performance computing. CDI orchestration software dynamically composes GPUs, NVMe SSDs, FPGA, networking, and storage-class memory to create software-defined bare metal servers on demand. This enables unparalleled resource utilization to deliver previously impossible performance for AI-driven data analytics.

Intelligent Fabrics for the Next Wave of AI Innovation

In this sponsored post, our friend John Spiers, Chief Strategy Officer at Liqid, discusses how resource utilization and the soaring costs surrounding it are a constant push and pull issue for IT Departments. Now with the emergence of AI and machine learning, resource utilization is far more front and center than it has ever been. Managing legacy hardware in a hyperconverged environment just as you always have is not going to cut it, because the people and hardware costs associated with these extremely heavy workloads are tremendous. Intelligent fabrics and composable infrastructure software deliver a solution to the problem that allows IT providers the ability to pool and deploy their hardware resources to adapt to the workload at hand, then re-deploy as required for a balanced system that can address the demands of AI and machine learning.

Exascale Exasperation: Why DOE Gave Intel a 2nd Chance; Can Nvidia GPUs Ride to Aurora’s Rescue?

The most talked-about topic in HPC these days – i.e., another Intel chip delay and therefore delay of the U.S.’s flagship Aurora exascale supercomputer – is something no one directly involved wants to talk about. Not Argonne National Laboratory, where Intel was to install Aurora in 2021; not the Department of Energy’s Exascale Computing Project, […]

KIOXIA Adds Thin Provisioning to KumoScale Software Suite, Increases Cloud Storage Efficiency

KIOXIA America, Inc. (formerly Toshiba Memory America, Inc.), the U.S.-based subsidiary of KIOXIA Corporation, has added thin provisioning to its KumoScale™ storage software based on NVM Express™ over Fabrics (NVMe-oF™) technology. Thin provisioning joins KumoScale software’s growing list of advanced storage functions that allow for the virtualization and management of high-performance flash at data center scale.

The OpenFabrics Alliance 2018 Annual Workshop Recap

“The 14th Annual OpenFabrics Alliance (OFA) Workshop, held in scenic Boulder, Colorado, recently concluded its week-long, community-wide collaboration and dialogue on OpenFabrics. As the premier means of fostering lively discussions among those who develop fabrics, deploy fabrics, and create applications that rely on fabrics, the Workshop is the ideal venue for the OpenFabrics community and networking industry at large to identify and address the wide variety of emerging industry requirements and challenges that remain.”

Amazon and Libfabric: A case study in flexible HPC Infrastructure

Brian Barrett from Amazon gave this talk at the 2018 OpenFabrics Workshop. “As network performance becomes a larger bottleneck in application performance, AWS is investing in improving HPC network performance. Our initial investment focused on improving performance in open source MPI implementations, with positive results. Recently, however, we have pivoted to focusing on using libfabric to improve point to point performance.”
