Computer Science Postdoctoral Scholar -  85373

Organization: CR-Computational Research

Berkeley Lab’s Computational Research Division has an opening for a Computer Science Postdoctoral Scholar. Develop performance modeling and analytical capabilities and tools for manycore and GPU-accelerated supercomputers and apply them to distributed memory Office of Science applications running on such platforms.

What You Will Do:

• Create performance tools and capabilities that visualize application and kernel performance in terms of available DRAM bandwidth, cache bandwidth, computational resources, and application computational characteristics.

• Use such tools to evaluate Office of Science application performance on manycore and GPU-accelerated supercomputers.

• Participate in a multidisciplinary team involving computer scientists, mathematicians, and domain scientists with the purpose of developing and deploying these codes for the solution of scientific and engineering problems.

• Document work and results in the form of journal papers and conference proceedings.

• Present work and results at scientific meetings.

What is Required:

• PhD degree, within the last 3 years, in computer science, applied math, computational science, or a related technical field.

• In-depth knowledge of multicore, manycore or GPU-accelerated architectures.

• Proven consensus builder in a highly collaborative environment.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

• Proven experience in high-performance parallel programming.

• Experience in using at least one shared memory programming model (e.g. OpenMP, OpenACC, or CUDA).

The posting shall remain open until the position is filled.

• This is a full time, 2 years, postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 3 years paid postdoctoral experience. Salary for Postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree.

• Full-time, M-F, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.

• Salary will be predetermined based on postdoctoral step rates.

• This position may be subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.

• Work will be primarily performed at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA.
