DST Group is offering positions for passionate, innovative professionals interested in joining us on the journey to create and provide leading edge data management in support of Australia’s sovereign defence and national interests.

Your role as the HPC Data Specialist encompasses the secure management and curation of research data collections; data derived from modelling and simulation studies and Big Data in support of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Deep Learning (AI/ML/DL) and long term research value conservation. Management of data within Defence and in a research context requires new and innovative approaches to ensure provenance, re-use and reproducibility of science across the long time horizons of major defence projects and service-life of platforms. These roles form part of a team developing and implementing leading edge data management frameworks and workflows for computational science. As the HPC Data Specialist you will contribute to the development of policies and guidelines for research data curation and security, taking a hands-on role in the configuration, maintenance and auditing of data managed within the HPC infrastructure.

You will use your judgement and expertise to work closely with researchers and the HPC Operations Team to document and optimise data workflow processes designed to deliver increased throughput and productivity to computationally intensive research projects. You will provide advice and assistance regarding best practice in data analytics, research data and storage management and provide assistance in the development and execution of Research Data Management Plans. The ideal candidates for this role will have demonstrated experience in data analytics and the assurance and delivery of secure data sets for scientific computing in a big-data and/or HPC environment. Collaborating with researchers to ensure the delivery of a high-quality user experience.

You will apply your expertise to a wide range of tasks in a security constrained environment, working with researchers to provide advanced support and advice to develop and deliver time sensitive analytic, data management and workflow solutions to meet their needs. You will provide advanced troubleshooting for managed research projects, interact and liaise with vendors, suppliers, distributors, contract consultants, and across DST’s national and international collaborating agencies.

Key responsibilities:
• Develop cutting-edge HPC data analysis, data management and workflow solutions for client research projects that meet client requirements within agreed timeframes and quality objectives.
• Accountable for managing allocated resources, setting work area priorities, managing workflows, developing strategies and evaluating business outcomes relating to Secure Data Management for computational science.
• Oversee and manage developments to meet Defence's strategic needs through improvements to Secure Data Management services; research and development of policy and practice for data management and research value conservation; and contribute to relevant national and international collaborations.
• Apply expertise and a broad understanding of data science knowledge to develop and implement secure data management practices and provide advice to senior management and stakeholders.
• Facilitate appropriate direction for the team by clearly communicating goals and objectives. Share data management expertise and guide and mentor stakeholders, peers and less experienced employees.
• Liaise and negotiate with stakeholders to recognise their priorities and develop data management solutions to meet their needs and expectations.
• Diagnose a range of data security issues, offer remediation advice and where approved, implement solutions.
• Requirement to produce and deliver learning and development materials in the area of Data Management for HPC.
