The Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) at Forschungszentrum Jülich operates one of the most powerful supercomputing infrastructures in Europe. Within the John von Neumann Institute for Computing (NIC) and the Gauss Centre for Supercomputing (GCS), JSC and its partners provide supercomputer resources for researchers from the computer-aided sciences in Germany and Europe through peer-review processes. In addition, JSC works together with world-leading technology providers to design hardware architectures for future high-performance computers. Via the recently established "Jülich User Infrastructure for Quantum Computing" (JUNIQ), researchers will also be able to access novel computing systems based on different quantum technologies. A Coordination Office for the Allocation of Computing Time has been set up at JSC to organise and manage the various allocation processes for supercomputer resources.

We are looking to recruit a

Science Manager for the allocation of supercomputer resources

Your Job:

Join our team in the Coordination Office for the Allocation of Computing Time to organise and manage allocation processes. Your tasks include

  • Organisation and coordination of the resource allocation for the quantum computing infrastructure JUNIQ as well as other German and European-wide allocation processes for supercomputer resources
  • Provision of support and advice for national and international researchers applying for supercomputer resources for scientific projects
  • Publication of calls for proposals, selection of scientific experts and evaluation of scientific reports on applications for supercomputer resources
  • Preparation of the allocation of computing time in coordination with the awarding bodies
  • Further development and adaptation of the application and review processes to current requirements
  • Organisation and support of the committees during the awarding process
  • Tracking and presentation of success indicators of computing time projects (reports, publications)
  • Coordination of and cooperation with internal and external partner institutions

Your Profile:

  • Master‘s degree in a scientific field, computer science, or engineering
  • Good knowledge of techniques and methods of computer-aided sciences
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of and scientific application programming for supercomputers
  • Very good German and English skills (written and spoken)
  • Experience with office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and with LaTeX
  • Ability for teamwork and to take initiative
  • Experience in science/project management is advantageous
