The Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) seeks a Senior Scientific Applications Engineer to support the overall mission of the group and in particular to contribute to the overall mission of the Center with a focus on application support for OSC's industrial engagement and research programs.


The individual in this position will:

  • Optimize relevant open source modeling and simulation codes for high performance execution on OSC and other HPC systems.
  • Provide consulting on code optimization, parallel programming or accelerator programming to OSC clients.
  • Perform application software builds, investigate software development tools, make improvements to OSC’s software deployment infrastructure, and create user-facing documentation.


The candidate must have strong communication skills and be willing to work in a distributed work environment. Continued employment will be contingent upon sustained and future funding for these activities.


Required: Bachelor's degree in a computing, science or engineering discipline or relevant professional experience. High Performance Computing experience. Expert knowledge of parallel programming models including MPI, OpenMP, vectorization and other parallel models. Experience programming in C/C++ or Fortran and one or more additional language such as Python, R or Matlab. Knowledge of computer architecture and optimizing code for vector floating point units and deep memory hierarchies.


Desired: Masters or Ph.D. degree in a computing, science or engineering discipline. Experience with debugging and performance analysis tools. Experience with Linux command line and building software from source in a Linux environment including deep familiarity with several of the following: Intel, gnu or PGI compilers, shell scripting, Cmake, AutoTools, and source code control. Exposure to easybuild, spack or similar HPC focused package management tools. Experience or interest in programming for accelerators/many-core architectures. Ability to work with ITAR restricted software packages.
