ACM Europe to Focus on Cybersecurity and HPC this week in Barcelona

The Barcelona Supercomputing Center will host the ACM Europe Conference this week, bringing together over 300 computer scientists from around the world. With main themes centering on Cybersecurity and High Performance Computing, the event takes place Sept. 7-8 in Barcelona.

Mateo Valero on how the MareNostrum 4 Supercomputer will Advance Science

In this video from ISC 2017, Mateo Valero from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center describes the innovations behind MareNostrum 4, the #13 supercomputer on the TOP500. “MareNostrum 4, hosted by Barcelona Supercomputing Center, is entirely aimed at generating scientific knowledge and its computer architecture has been called ‘the most diverse and interesting in the world’ by international experts. Equipped with Intel’s latest processing and networking technologies, MareNostrum provides 11.1 Petaflops of processing power to scientific production.”

EU Funds BSC Researcher to Develop New Aircraft Simulation Tools

BSC researcher Xevi Roca will receive a one of the European Union’s most prestigious research grants for a project to create new simulation methods to respond to the aviation industry’s most pressing challenges. Roca, who has been working on geometry for aeronautical simulation since 2004, is proposing to integrate time as a dimension into the geometries of simulations. The aim is to improve the efficiency, accuracy and robustness of the aerodynamic performance simulations carried out on supercomputers such as BSC’s MareNostrum.

Students Learn Supercomputing at the Summer of HPC in Barcelona

In this video, students describe their learning experience at the 2016 PRACE Summer of HPC program in Barcelona. “The PRACE Summer of HPC is a PRACE outreach and training program that offers summer placements at top HPC centers across Europe to late-stage undergraduates and early-stage postgraduate students. Up to twenty top applicants from across Europe will be selected to participate. Participants spend two months working on projects related to PRACE technical or industrial work and produce a report and a visualization or video of their results.”
