High Performance Big Data Computing Using Harp-DAAL

Harp-DAAL is a framework developed at Indiana University that brings together the capabilities of big data (Hadoop) and techniques that have previously been adopted for high performance computing.  Together, employees can become more productive and gain deeper insights to massive amounts of data.

New MapD Cloud offers GPU-accelerated Analytics

Over at the MapD blog, Todd Mostak writes the company has justed launched the MapD Cloud, a major milestone GPU-accelerated analytics. “With MapD Cloud, anyone can spin up a 2-week trial of our platform in less than 60 seconds, and then continue as a customer with a mix of self-service individual and enterprise plans. The launch of MapD cloud is the next major step toward our larger vision of giving everyone access to GPU-accelerated analytics, following our decision to open source the core of the platform nearly a year ago.”

The traditional HPC and commercial markets have been converging as established HPC users increase their use of newer analytics methods and commercial firms turn to HPC for mission-critical analytics problems that enterprise technology alone can’t handle adequately. Key verticals exploiting HPDA include financial services, healthcare/bioinformatics, energy, cybersecurity/fraud, manufacturing, online retailers and service providers, digital content creation, telecommunications, government, and academia. Key horizontal applications include simulation, fraud and anomaly detection, business intelligence/business analytics, machine learning/deep learning, affinity marketing, and advanced visualization.
