SUSE joins iRODS Consortium

The SUSE announced that it has joined the iRODS Consortium, the foundation that leads development and support of the integrated Rule-Oriented Data System (iRODS) data management software. “SUSE has a rich history of Linux distribution and open source support, and partnering with them will allow iRODS to make even deeper connections throughout the open source community,” said Jason Coposky, Executive Director, iRODS Consortium. “SUSE Enterprise Storage integrated with iRODS’ data management capabilities creates a compelling and comprehensive solution stack.”

Excelero and Mellanox Boost Ceph Performance in OpenStack Cloud

OpenStack cloud provider Teuto.net has reported exceptional performance with low-latency block storage using deployed Excelero’s NVMesh Server SAN along with Mellanox SN2100 switches. As more customers need storage suitable for demanding databases that exceed Ceph’s performance, teuto.net achieved a 2,000% performance gain and 10x lower IO latency with NVMesh compared to Ceph while avoiding costly, less scalable appliances and proprietary vendor solutions.

Ceph on the Brain: Storage and Data-Movement Supporting the Human Brain Project

Red Hat Ceph Storage Powers Research at the University of Alabama at Birmingham

On June 6, Red Hat announced that the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is using Red Hat Ceph Storage to support the growing needs of its research community. UAB selected Red Hat Ceph Storage because it offers researchers a flexible platform that can accommodate the vast amounts of data necessary to support future innovation and discovery. “UAB is a leader in computational research, with more than $500 million in annual research expenditures in areas including engineering, statistical genetics, genomics and next-generation gene sequencing,” said Curtis A. Carver Jr., VP and CIO at UAB. “Researchers and students aggregate, analyze, and store massive amounts of data, which is used to support groundbreaking medical discoveries from new cancer biomarkers to state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging techniques.”

Red Hat Showcases ThunderX 2 Development Platform for HPC
