Cycle Computing Publishes Cloud-Agnostic Glossary

Today Cycle Computing announced the Cloud-Agnostic Glossary, a solution brief written by Cycle Computing executives to help customers understand the different terms the different providers use and how they relate. “Technology keeps evolving, terms keep changing, and because of this, we were inspired to stop and take a moment to develop a glossary to keep track of meanings in real time, and according to vendor,” said Jason Stowe, CEO, Cycle Computing. “We ended up with this great solution brief, worthy of reading and sharing. It’s a useful document that we plan to update regularly.”

Avere Systems Teams with Cycle Computing for High Performance Multi-cloud Orchestration

Today Avere Systems and Cycle Computing announced a technology integration that enables hybrid high-performance computing (HPC) in popular public cloud computing environments. By integrating the Avere vFXT Edge filer cloud bursting technology with Cycle Computing’s CycleCloud offering, users are now able to launch an Avere tiered file system on demand linked directly with the CycleCloud managed scalable compute nodes through cloud providers like AWS, Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure.

NASA Optimizes Climate Impact Research with Cycle Computing

Today Cycle Computing announced its continued involvement in optimizing research spearheaded by NASA’s Center for Climate Simulation (NCCS) and the University of Minnesota. Currently, a biomass measurement effort is underway in a coast-to-coast band of Sub-Saharan Africa. An over 10 million square kilometer region of Africa’s trees, a swath of acreage bigger than the entirety […]

Video: Building HPC Clusters as Code in the (Almost) Infinite Cloud

Jeff Layton from Amazon presented this talk at the AWS Public Sector Summit. “Learn how to build HPC clusters on the fly, leverage Amazon’s Spot market pricing to minimize the cost of HPC jobs, and scale HPC jobs on a small budget, using all the same tools you use today, and a few new ones too.”

Video: Managing Large Production Cloud Deployments

“Cycle Computing software leverages cloud resources to make computation in the cloud productive at any scale, by orchestrating workflows, managing data, balancing cloud options, and enabling users in a secure, controlled way. Our software works with public cloud providers like Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, and Microsoft Azure, as well as with internal and private cloud environments.”

Video: Scientific Computing in the Amazon SPOT Market

In this video from the HPC in the Cloud Educational Series, Brendan Bouffler, part of Global Scientific Computing at Amazon Web Services discusses how leveraging the SPOT market options with the Amazon cloud offering can offer advantages for scientific, large computation and big data.

Video: Using Google Compute Engine Pre-Emptible VMs for Cancer Research

In this video from the HPC in the Cloud Educational Series, Marco Novaes, Solutions Engineer with the Google Cloud Platform team explains how the Broad Institute was able to use Google Pre-Emptible VMs to leverage over 50,000 cores to advance cancer research. “Cancer researchers saw value in a highly-complex genome analysis, but even though they already had powerful processing systems in-house, running the analysis would take months or more. We thought this would be a perfect opportunity to utilize Google Compute Engine’s Preemptible VMs to further their cancer research, which was a natural part of our mission. And now that Preemptible VMs are generally available, we’re excited to tell you about this work.”

Video: Microsoft Azure for Engineering Analysis and Simulation

Tejas Karmarkar from Microsoft presented this talk at SC15. “Azure provides on-demand compute resources that enable you to run large parallel and batch compute jobs in the cloud. Extend your on-premises HPC cluster to the cloud when you need more capacity, or run work entirely in Azure. Scale easily and take advantage of advanced networking features such as RDMA to run true HPC applications using MPI to get the results you want, when you need them.”

Video: Overcoming Storage Roadblocks in HPC Clouds

“The virtually infinite scale of cloud compute resources is now within easy reach from either existing network-attached or object-based storage. No longer is the location of your storage a roadblock to reaping the ease, timeliness, and cost offered by cloud compute services. Avere’s Enterprise Cloud Bursting solution utilizes the Virtual FXT Edge filer (vFXT) which puts high-performance, scalable NAS where you need it to enable massive compute on-demand for enterprise apps with simple installation and zero hardware maintenance. Avere makes your NAS data accessible to cloud compute without experiencing latency or requiring that your data be moved to the cloud.”

Video: Why Wouldn’t You Use Public Cloud for HPC?

Rob Futrick presented this talk at SC15. “Cycle Computing’s CycleCloud software suite is the leading cloud orchestration, provisioning, and data management platform for Big Compute, Big Data, and large technical computing applications running on any public, private, or internal environment. For years, customers in Life Sciences, Manufacturing, Financial Services, and other Engineering and Research areas have used CycleCloud software to manage some of the world’s largest production cloud deployments.”
