Today Cycle Computing announced the Cloud-Agnostic Glossary, a solution brief written by Cycle Computing executives to help customers understand the different terms the different providers use and how they relate. “Technology keeps evolving, terms keep changing, and because of this, we were inspired to stop and take a moment to develop a glossary to keep track of meanings in real time, and according to vendor,” said Jason Stowe, CEO, Cycle Computing. “We ended up with this great solution brief, worthy of reading and sharing. It’s a useful document that we plan to update regularly.”
Avere Systems Teams with Cycle Computing for High Performance Multi-cloud Orchestration
Today Avere Systems and Cycle Computing announced a technology integration that enables hybrid high-performance computing (HPC) in popular public cloud computing environments. By integrating the Avere vFXT Edge filer cloud bursting technology with Cycle Computing’s CycleCloud offering, users are now able to launch an Avere tiered file system on demand linked directly with the CycleCloud managed scalable compute nodes through cloud providers like AWS, Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure.

In this video from the HPC in the Cloud Educational Series, Marco Novaes, Solutions Engineer with the Google Cloud Platform team explains how the Broad Institute was able to use Google Pre-Emptible VMs to leverage over 50,000 cores to advance cancer research. “Cancer researchers saw value in a highly-complex genome analysis, but even though they already had powerful processing systems in-house, running the analysis would take months or more. We thought this would be a perfect opportunity to utilize Google Compute Engine’s Preemptible VMs to further their cancer research, which was a natural part of our mission. And now that Preemptible VMs are generally available, we’re excited to tell you about this work.”
