Adept Project Explores HPC Energy Efficiency

“We have been working on developing a number of tools that enable users to quantify power and performance in both software and hardware, and then design a more efficient system. We can also utilize the tools to predict the performance of a piece of software on a system that may not be available or does not yet exist – the aim is to take the guesswork away from novel system design.”

SGI Opens European Joint Research Centre at EPCC in Edinburgh

Today SGI announced a significant investment in extreme scale software research at The Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre (EPCC) at the University of Edinburgh. The investments at this top tier research centre highlight the commitment of SGI to the European software research community. These resources, including SGI application software and supercomputing hardware expertise, will assist scientists as they explore issues related to healthcare, materials science, climate change and renewable resources, among many other topics.

EuroMPI Conference Partners with Women in HPC to Bolster Diversity

Over at the Women in HPC Blog, Daniel Holmes from EPCC writes that the EuroMPI Conference is partnering with Women in HPC to increase diversity in high performance computing.

Video: A Short Introduction to High Performance Computing

In this video, Dr. Andrew Turner from EPCC in the UK presents: A Short Introduction to High Performance Computing. “I originally joined EPCC in July 2008 as a member of the User Support and Liaison Team. My work is centred around helping researchers get the most from computing facilities hosted by EPCC and elsewhere. I do this through porting and optimizing code to various HPC facilities; providing consultancy to commercial organizations; teaching undergraduates and postgraduates; and collaborating with academics on research proposals.”
