A new supercomputer has been deployed at the Jülich Supercomputing Center (JSC) in Germany. Called QPACE3, the new 447 Teraflop machine is named for “QCD Parallel Computing on the Cell. “QPACE3 is being used by the University of Regensburg for a joint research project with the University of Wuppertal and the Jülich Supercomputing Center for numerical simulations of quantum chromodynamics (QCD), which is one of the fundamental theories of elementary particle physics. Such simulations serve, among other things, to understand the state of the universe shortly after the Big Bang, for which a very high computing power is required.”
Asetek Lands Nine Installations on the Green500
“As seen at installations included on both the Green500 and Top500 lists, Asetek’s distributed liquid cooling architecture enables cluster energy efficiency in addition to sustained and un-throttled cluster performance,” said John Hamill, Vice President of WW Sales and Marketing. “Around the world, data centers are increasingly using Asetek technology for High Performance Computing while reducing energy costs.”
Riken’s Shoubu Supercomputer Leads Green500 List
Today the Green500 released their listing of the world’s most energy efficient supercomputers. “Japan’s research institution RIKEN once again captured the top spot with its Shoubu supercomputer. With rating of 6673.84 MFLOPS/Watt, Shoubu edged out another RIKEN system, Satsuki, the number 2 system that delivered 6195.22 MFLOPS/Watt. Both are “ZettaScaler”supercomputers, employing Intel Xeon processors and PEZY-SCnp manycore accelerators.
Submissions Open for Newly Merged TOP500 and Green500
Today the ISC Group announced that the Green500 will be integrated with the TOP500 project with a single submission process. “This merge is of great significance to the high performance computing community,” said Erich Strohmaier, co-founder of TOP500. “Both projects will now be maintained under a common set of rules for data submission, which will simplify the process for submitters and provide a consistent set of data for the historical record.”
Green Revolution Cooling Helps Tsubame-KFC Supercomputer Top the Green500
Today Green Revolution Cooling announced that their immersive cooling technology is used by the most efficient supercomputers in the world as ranked in the latest Green500 list. For the third consecutive year, the Green Revolution Cooling-powered Tsubame-KFC supercomputer at Tokyo Institute of Technology achieved top honors, ranking as the most efficient commercially available setup, and second overall.
Video: L-CSC Cluster Tops Green500 with AMD Firepro
In this video, researchers describes the Lattice-CSC cluster in Darmstadt, Germany. Currently the most energy-efficient supercomputer on the Green500 list, the Lattice-CSC is powered by 640 AMD FirePro S9150 GPUs to achieve 5.27 GFLOPS/Watt.
