Call for Papers: HPC Saudi Conference

The HPC Saudi Conference has issued its Call for Papers. Taking place March 17-19 in Riyadh, HPC Saudi enables participants from academia, industry, and government come together to share ideas and experiences, and discuss cooperation and collaboration, to advance the cutting edge in HPC, nationally and beyond. “This is the 10th HPC Saudi event and this year it will focus on the themes related to the convergence of HPC with big data, artificial intelligence (AI), and IoT. A particular focus is to explore the future HPC technologies in the era of ubiquitous smart computing, such as big data analytics leveraging edge, fog, cloud, and distributed computing for low-latency smart sensing and actor applications.”

Dr. Robert Voigt on Educating Computational Scientists

In this video from KAUST Live, Dr. Robert Voigt discusses his recent keynote at the HPC Saudi Conference on the topic of Educating Computational Scientists. “This talk will provide a historical perspective on the challenges of educating computational scientists based on my personal involvement over a number of years. Three decidedly different activities will be drawn on to indicate how one can successfully approach the challenge.”

Shaheen Supercomputer at KAUST Completes Trillion Cell Reservoir Simulation

Over at KAUST News, Nicholas G. Demille​ writes that the Shaheen supercomputer has completed the world’s first trillion cell reservoir simulation. A Saudi Aramco research team led by fellow Ali Dogru conducted the reservoir simulation using Shaheen and the company’s proprietary software TeraPOWERS. The Aramco researchers were supported by a team of specialists from the KAUST Supercomputing Core Lab, with the work rendering imagery so detailed that it changed the face of natural resource exploration.
