DOE to Fund HPC for Manufacturing

Today, DOE announced nearly $3.9 million for 13 projects designed to stimulate the use of high performance supercomputing in U.S. manufacturing. The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) Advanced Manufacturing Office’s High Performance Computing for Manufacturing (HPC4Mfg) program enables innovation in U.S. manufacturing through the adoption of high performance computing to advance applied science and technology relevant to manufacturing. HPC4Mfg aims to increase the energy efficiency of manufacturing processes, advance energy technology, and reduce energy’s impact on the environment through innovation.

HPC4Mfg Industry Day Comes to San Diego March 2-3

HPC4Mfg will host their first annual High Performance Computing for Manufacturing Industry Engagement Day on March 2-3 in San Diego. With a theme of “Spurring Innovation in U.S. Manufacturing Through Advanced Computing,” the conference will bring together representatives from U.S. manufacturing, national laboratories, universities, and consortiums to discuss the recent advancements in manufacturing realized through the application of HPC and how leveraging HPC expertise through public-private partnerships has lowered the risk of adoption.

HPC4mfg Seeks New Proposals to Advance Energy Technologies

Today the Energy Department’s Advanced Manufacturing Office announced up to $3 million in available funding for manufacturers to use high-performance computing resources at the Department’s national laboratories to tackle major manufacturing challenges. The High Performance Computing for Manufacturing (HPC4Mfg) program enables innovation in U.S. manufacturing through the adoption of high performance computing (HPC) to advance applied science and technology in manufacturing, with an aim of increasing energy efficiency, advancing clean energy technology, and reducing energy’s impact on the environment.

DOE Funds 13 HPC4Mfg Clean Energy Projects

The Department of Energy has funded $3.8 million fro 13 new industry projects as part of its HPC4Mfg program. “We’re excited about this second round of projects because companies are bringing forward challenges that we can help address, which result in advancing innovation in U.S. manufacturing and increasing our economic competitiveness,” said LLNL mathematician Peg Folta, the director of the HPC4Mfg Program.

AweSim Project at OSC to Advance Welding Simulation with HPC4Mfg

Today the AweSim program at the Ohio Supercomputer Center announced it has been selected to develop one of 10 national industry projects under the DOE High Performance Computing for Manufacturing (HPC4Mfg) program. We are pleased to be working with AweSim to develop a cloud-based 3D platform for our E-Weld Predictor tool,” said Tom McGaughy, EWI Director of Technology. “This new app will increase the accuracy of weld distortion and residual stress predictions and broaden access for manufacturers to use this advanced simulation tool to reduce rework and improve first-time quality.”

GE & DOE Partner on HPC4Mfg Projects

Today GE Global Research announced that it has been awarded two projects under the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) High Performance Computing for Manufacturing (HPC4Mfg) Program. Teams of Global Research experts will work with teams at Oak Ridge and Lawrence Livermore National Labs on some of the world’s most powerful supercomputers to improve 3D printing processes and explore new concepts for higher jet engine efficiency.

10 New HPC Projects to Advance U.S. Manufacturing & Energy Technology

Under the HPC4Mfg program, National laboratory experts in advanced modeling, simulation and data analysis collaborate with industrial partners on project teams to address manufacturing challenges that will aid in decision making, optimize processes and design, improve quality, predict performance and failure, quicken or eliminate testing, and/or shorten the time of adoption of new technologies.

LLNL & Rensselaer Polytechnic to Promote Industrial HPC

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute will combine decades of expertise to help American industry and businesses expand use of high performance computing under a recently signed memorandum of understanding.
