Catalyst UK Program Fosters Arm-based HPC Systems

“Clearly Arm will fit in as part of a broader HPC ecosystem, as we move towards systems that involve multiple chip architectures. In terms of scientific research, it may mean we run one stage of a simulation workflow on an Arm processor, while another stage is best carried out on another processor. By building a common fabric with multiple architectures on it, we can allow users to use the most appropriate hardware for each stage of their particular research problem.”

ASTRA: A Large Scale ARM64 HPC Deployment

Michael Aguilar from Sandia National Laboratories gave this talk at the Stanford HPC Conference. “This talk will discuss the Sandia National Laboratories Astra HPC system as mechanism for developing and evaluating large-scale deployments of alternative and advanced computational architectures. As part of the Vanguard program, the new Arm-based system will be used by the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) to run advanced modeling and simulation workloads for addressing areas such as national security, energy and science.”

Video: HPE Showcases Innovation for HPC at SC17

In this video, Bill Mannel gives a booth tour that highlights some of the amazing HPC innovations on display in the HPE booth at SC17. “HPE’s first ARM-based HPC system brings more choice and flexibility to HPC customers. The Apollo 70, using Cavium’s 64-bit ARMv8-A ThunderX2 Server Processor, is purpose-built for memory intensive HPC workloads and delivers up to 33 percent more memory bandwidth than today’s industry standard servers.”
