IDC to Host a Pair of Special Events at ISC 2016

IDC will hold a pair of simultaneous events on Tuesday, June 21 at 7:30am – 10:00am at ISC 2016 in Frankfurt. “IDC cordially invites you and other HPC community members to attend our annual HPC market update breakfast briefing at the ISC’16 conference in Frankfurt. This year, for the first time, we will hold two different events – the annual update on the whole HPC market, and at the request of the ISC organizers, a separate presentation focused on the HPC market for industry/commerce.”

In this video from the HPC User Forum in Tucson, Saul Gonzalez Martirena from NSF provides an update on the NSCI initiative. “As a coordinated research, development, and deployment strategy, NSCI will draw on the strengths of departments and agencies to move the Federal government into a position that sharpens, develops, and streamlines a wide range of new 21st century applications. It is designed to advance core technologies to solve difficult computational problems and foster increased use of the new capabilities in the public and private sectors.”

Cyber Security: IDC Study Shows Wide Range of Corporate Preparedness

“The findings of a recent IDC study on the cybersecurity practices of U.S. businesses reveal a wide spectrum of attitudes and approaches to the growing challenge of keeping corporate data safe. While the minority of cybersecurity “best practitioners” set an admirable example, the study findings indicate that most U.S. companies today are underprepared to deal effectively with potential security breaches from outside or inside their firewalls.”

In this video from the SC15 HPC Matters series, Ryan Quick, Principal Architect for Advance Technologies at Paypal, talks about how HPC transforms online payment transactions. “IDC estimates that PayPal has saved more than $700 million by moving up to HPC in a very innovative way for real-time and predictive fraud analysis,” said Earl Joseph of IDC. “High performance data analysis – big data using HPC – is the fastest growing part of the HPC market and is attracting many commercial users. “

EU/European HPC Plans for the Next Decade

Bob Sorensen from IDC presented this talk at the HPC User Forum. In a recent study, IDC assessed the EU’s progress towards their 2012 action plan and made recommendations for funding exascale systems and fostering industrial HPC in the coming decade.
