Cray Brings on Storage Experts from Terascala

Today Cray announced it has strengthened its Lustre and overall storage and data management expertise with the addition of key individuals from Terascala, a Boston-based storage company highly regarded for developing easy-to-use and easy-to-manage storage solutions.

Video: Intel Moves Omni-Path Forward for HPC

“The Intel Omni-Path Architecture is designed to deliver the performance for tomorrow’s HPC workloads and the ability to scale to tens—and eventually hundreds—of thousands of nodes at a cost-competitive price to today’s fabrics. This next-generation fabric from Intel builds on the Intel True Scale Fabric with an end-to-end solution, including PCIe* adapters, silicon, switches, cables, and management software. Customers deploying Intel True Scale Fabric today will be able to migrate to Intel Omni-Path Architecture through an Intel upgrade program.”

Univa Grid Engine Adds Preemption Feature to Increase Cluster Efficiency

Today Univa announced availability of its much anticipated Preemption feature for Univa Grid Engine. Preemption, in combination with Universal Resource Broker, gives users the unprecedented ability to “pause” workload, services, or containers in the system on a moment’s notice in order to run a higher priority application. This is the first time a preemption feature has been able to work with big data applications.

New UCX Network Communication Framework for Next-Gen Programming Models

UCX is a collaboration between industry, laboratories, and academia to create an open-source production grade communication framework for HPC applications. “The path to Exascale, in addition to many other challenges, requires programming models where communications and computations unfold together, collaborating instead of competing for the underlying resources. In such an environment, providing holistic access to the hardware is a major component of any programming model or communication library. With UCX, we have the opportunity to provide not only a vehicle for production quality software, but also a low-level research infrastructure for more flexible and portable support for the Exascale-ready programming models.”

Video: Seagate Teams with HP for ClusterStor

“At ISC 2015, Seagate announced that the company has extended its alliance agreement with computing leader HP to equip its high performance computing solutions with ClusterStor scale-out storage capabilities. Building on a proven partnership, HP will resell Seagate’s ClusterStor 1500 and 9000 appliances along with its HPC solutions. This partnership will support HP’s Apollo portfolio of products and services, which manage HPC workloads in complex computing environments.”

DDN Rolls Out World’s Fastest Entry-Level Lustre Appliance

Today DDN rolled out a new entry-level, turnkey Lustre storage appliance at ISC 2015. “As a founding member of OpenSFS, DDN was the first storage vendor to support Lustre and sells and supports more Lustre environments than any other storage vendor in the world. Expanding on this experience, the DDN EXAScaler 7000 (ES7K) leverages Lustre 2.5 pre-installed and fully optimized for DDN’s high-density storage appliances. ES7K delivers enterprise-level features including simple management and monitoring interfaces, and HPC-level performance that optimizes both mixed and parallel I/O performance.”
